11 Week – Professional Ski Instructor

Ski Instructor Programs

The YES Professional Ski Instructor Course is the ultimate program for anyone looking to get the most out of their time in Whistler. We have spent the last few years listening to our graduates’ feedback and we have built the next generation of ski courses!

Program Overview

The Ski Instructor course will not only take your skiing to new heights, it will also improve your interpersonal skills, make you a better communicator and increase your technical knowledge of skiing, snow, your equipment – everything relating to this awesome sport. This extensive program will take you through all the training you need for you to achieve your CSIA Levels 1 & 2 certifications.

The standard 11 week program covers CSIA levels 1 & 2, AST 1, AST advanced including a backcountry overnight trip, CADS level 1 certification (disabled ski teaching), Snow Park training and advanced skiing training. The last course of the season is different – the first 7 weeks are the same, covering the CSIA levels 1 & 2 and AST 1, but in the final few weeks you go on to do the BASI Level 2 (a British skiing qualification). Find out more in the “More Info” section below.

The program includes regular technical videos, on-going assessment of your skiing progress, weekly fun video (see yourself on the big screen at our weekly Friday après) and a written personalized evaluation each week from one of our qualified Level 4 Pros.

Reviewing videos of your technique is just one of the integral ingredients of the YES recipe for success. Being able to watch yourself while you are on the mountain with your group will strengthen your mental imagery to improve your technique and put that into practise immediately.

February 8th 2020 – 11 week course

The 11 week course starting on the 8th Feb 2020 is different from the standard 11 week program – it includes the BASI Level 2! YES are the only provider in Canada of this qualification.

Like the CSIA, the BASI certification is recognized around the world, especially in European resorts. Having certifications in both CSIA and BASI methodology will increase your knowledge and hiring opportunities. The BASI program is a 2 week training course including the exam. You must first successfully pass the CSIA Level 2 in order to proceed onto the BASI Level 2.

You will also need to have a valid first aid certificate to sit the BASI course. If you do not have this we can arrange for you in Whistler. Note that this program will not include the AST2 and CADS. Find out more about the BASI level 2 here.
