Snowboard Instructor Courses
The Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors
(CASI) trains and certifies snowboard instructors
and coaches and to ensure that a national standard
of safe and efficient snowboard instruction is maintained.
CASI was formed in 1994.
CASI offers four levels of instructor certification.

CASI Level
1 |
An entry level
program designed to introduce prospective snowboard
instructors to the basic teaching and riding
skills used at the beginner, novice and intermediate
levels of riding. |
15 years of age
on the first day of the course
Able to demonstrate comfortable and safe
riding skills on intermediate terrain. |
CASI Level
2 |
This course introduces
the skill concept and progression for intermediate
and advanced level snowboarding. |
CASI Level 1 Instructor
certification
Able to ride on advanced terrain and carve
controlled turns on intermediate terrain. |
CASI Park |
The Park Instructor
course is designed to introduce instructors
to safe methods of teaching using terrain park
features. Candidates will be introduced to
basic park features, and explore airs/jumps,
airs with rotation, basic rails/boxes and half
pipe (if available). |
CASI Level 1 Instructor
certification
Able to demonstrate comfortable and safe riding
skills on intermediate terrain, as well as basic
terrain park features. |
CASI Carve |
The Carving Instructor
course is designed to introduce instructors
to the various methods of carving. Candidates
will be introduced to carving techniques ranging
from basic to advanced. |

skills on intermediate and advanced terrain. |

The Canadian
Association for Disabled Skiing (CADS)
is a volunteer based organization having as its
main objective, assisting individuals with a disability
to lead richer and fuller lives through active
participation in recreational and competitive snow
skiing and snowboarding. The course teaches the
basics of instructing people with disabilities
including techniques to teach sight impaired or
limited mobility individuals. For more information

Recreational Avalanche Course
A 2.5 day course specifically for skiers and snowboarders,
involving a mix of theory and practical skills to
teach you basic safety knowledge for winter backcountry
travel. Learn about formation of avalanches, factors
affecting snow-pack, route finding, safety equipment
usage, snow-pack observation and assessment, as well
as enjoy a few turns in the backcountry.
Participants must be at least an intermediate skier
or snowboarder. |
